Patrick Keohane Memorial Project

Calling all people who are interested in seeing a unique piece of world history:

Sometimes … labels like the above are there to inspire an interest but I think this heading is justified when you read below:

The Patrick Keohane Memorial Project is pleased to announce the unveiling of a statue to commemorate one of Ireland’s true adventurers on Sunday, August 19th.

Patrick Keohane was one of the men who accompanied Scott on his fatal journey to the South Pole c.100 years ago. Many would have heard of Kerry’s Tom Crean but it has taken us a little bit more time to highlight the amazing exploits of our own local hero.

This is a unique piece of history for which we should be really proud of. Descendants of Patrick Keohane, his family and the public are welcome to join in the unveiling. Finer details are available on the afore mentioned website.

To fund activities, the committee has organised some enjoyable activities for all ages. Please find details below:

Saturday July 21st       Barbecue in Anchor Bar, Courtmacsherry @ 6pm

Saturday July 21st       Table Quiz in Lifeboat Inn, Courtmacsherry @ 10pm

Saturday July 28th       Lecture & slide show on Patrick Keohane in Courtmacsherry Community Hall @ 9pm

Sunday Aug 19th            Unveiling of statue.
