We’re trying to get feedback about the best methods to promote the best of Bandon. Do you have any ideas / a commercial interest in Bandon / a way to get groups to work together to make an even better Bandon? If the answer to this question is yes … then please email visitbandon@gmail.com with your name, an email address and a brief outline of your idea. The proposed plan is to organise a meeting to create an agreed town plan. (We all know we need it but we just need to get it up and running)
We have 4 marketing initiatives available: 1. the www.bandon.ie website, 2. the Bandon Town Facebook page and 3. the Bandon e-zine (on-line magazine) (4) The Bandon website is linked to Twitter.
We want to get more businesses using the www.bandon.ie website and we’d like to post info about local businesses free gratis and for nothing.
So come on businesses: Free advertising!

Bandon Hockey Club brings ‘Santa Ponsa or bust’ to Bandon.

“Bandon Hockey Club welcomes the hilarious Santa Ponsa or Bust comedy show to the Munster Arms Hotel on Saturday night, the 28th January and the 4th February 2012. This comedy show stars Pakie O’Callaghan and Frank Twomey of Bull Island fame; Joe Duffy’s “Funny Friday” and more recently “Dragon’s Den” fame.

Tickets are €17.50 each and are available from the Munster Arms Hotel or from any Hockey Club member. Doors on the night open at 7.30 p.m. with the show commencing at 8 p.m.

A great night of laughs is guaranteed. Your support towards this event would be greatly appreciated. Hope to see you there.”

Ronan Crowley of Nyhan Motors wins Technician of the Year 2011.

Congratulations to Ronan Crowley of Nyhan Motors for winning Hyundai Technician of the Year.

The award was won under the H-Step training and Technician Recognition Programme

Technician of the year awards are based on the best result achieved at Master assessment in order to show recognition for the Technicians who have achieved this aim.

The achievement of this standard reaffirms the Dealerships commitment to development of staff who are at the heart of our business.

Bandon Athletic Club – Future Activities

Please find below some interesting details of events that are being run by the Bandon Athletic Club. These should suit all tastes:

1. Bandon Athletic Club will hold a Carol Singing Morning on Friday 23rd December from 11.30am -1pm.
Outside Bandon Credit Union
Proceeds to Bandon Special Olympics & SVP
All Welcome

2. The club is hosting the annual Donough Coughlan memorial 5 mile road race on Monday 2nd Jan.
Race entries will be taken on the day in the Bandon GAA pavilion. (click for direction)
There will also be a non-competitive walk with a draw for spot prizes with all walkers entered in the draw.
The walkers will set off at 12.30pm while the runners have a 1pm start.
Entry is €10 for the race. €5 for juniors (under 20) but there is a minimum age of 15 to compete. Entry for walk is €5
Course is the same as last year and the finish will again be beside the Old Still pub by the Mart.
Refreshments will be available in the GAA pavilion afterward and the prizes will be given out there also.

November thoughts and the run up to Christmas

I’ve deliberately held back from writing about recent events in our town as I felt that others would be able to describe the outrage, shock and horror that Bandonians feel better than I ever could. Leo McMahon’s article in last weeks Southern Star and Eddie Goggin’s editorial in this month’s Opinion magazine are, I believe, superb reflective pieces on a trying time in the history of Bandon.

Condolences go out to the families and friends of those effected.

To make things worse, while in the midst of coping with these tragic events, we also had the situation of another potential river flood. We have received some good news relating to long term plans (More details later) but it does serve a purpose to remind us to keep the pressure on to have work done on the river.

The active business people have been busy preparing for Christmas. As stated in the Bandon newsletter, let’s hope that can keep as much business in Bandon in business. The oft-used cliché of ‘keep your business in Bandon and keep Bandon in business’ is never more true.

Santa is going to have a busy time with visits to locations such as the Town hall, Mr Simms Sweet shop and he will also be visiting Katie’s Chocolates on the bypass. (Santa and sweets … what more could you want?)

In response to a recent query about locations who offer free wi-fi for customers …. Sorrento’s on South Main St have reminded us that they offer free wi-fi for customers and to top that, they also have a set menu 3 course or 2 plus Wine @ 25 €.

Businesses are reminded that they can use the www.bandon.ie website, the BandonTown Facebook page and the Bandon e-zine email newsletter to promote their business. (No catches or costs!) Just drop a line or two detailing what you have to offer. There’s a simple philosophy here regarding promotion … anything that helps a business in Bandon … helps Bandon!

At the time of writing, Bandon are about to take the field for what should hopefully be a momentous day for the history of Bandon GAA.

On other things, the Bandon Engage Festival was an outstanding success. Congrats to all of those involved.

I’d also like to flag something that is slowly but surely becoming more and more popular … the Bandon E-Zine. For all the on-line stuff that has been written over the last few years since overseeing the www.bandon.ie website, the E-Zine is proving to be very popular.
